MARKET DEVELOPMENT GRANT (MDG) - SUPPORT INITIATIVES FOR MALAYSIAN SME COMPANIES AFFECTED BY COVID-19

The Market Development Grant (MDG) is a financial support facility in the form of a reimbursable grant to assist Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Professional Service Providers, Trade & Industry Associations, Chambers of Commerce and Professional Bodies in undertaking eligible export promotional activities.

  • The Market Development Grant (MDG) is a support initiative in the form of a reimbursable grant. MDG was introduced in 2002 with the objective of assisting exporters in their efforts to promote Malaysian made products or services globally. The lifetime limit of MDG is RM300,000 and it is specifically formulated for Malaysian SME Companies, Professional Service Providers, Trade and Industry Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Professional Bodies and Co-operatives.

What Activities Are Eligible For Grant Funding?

  1. Physical Events

  2. Participation in International Trade Fairs or Exhibitions held in Malaysia/Overseas

  3. Participation in Trade & Investment Missions (TIM) or Export Acceleration Missions (EAM)

  4. Participation in International Conferences Held Overseas

  5. Listing Fees for Made in Malaysia Products in Supermarkets or Hypermarkets or Retail Centres or Boutique Outlets Located Overseas

  6. Virtual Events

  7. Participation in Virtual International Trade Fairs In Malaysia Or Overseas

  8. Participation In Business To Business (B2B) Meetings Related To Virtual Trade Investment Missions And Export Acceleration Missions

  9. Additional Activities (activities undertaken from 1 January 2021 - 31 December 2021)

  10. Financial Compensation for Cancellation or Postponements of Trade Fair / Exhibition Locally or Overseas

  11. Reimbursement on Logistic Cost for Sending Malaysian Products Overseas

  12. International Certification for Exports

  13. Registration of Intellectual Property (IP) for International Market

  14. Advertising & Promotion (A&P) Expenses for Exports

Who Is Eligible To Claim For MDG? (please refer to MDG Guidelines)

  1. Incorporated under Companies Act 1965

  2. At least 60% Malaysian equity

  3. In operation at least 1 year

  4. Not government link companies

  5. Register with Matrade

  6. Exporting Malaysia Product / Service

  7. Must Be Malaysian Brand (Made in Malaysia)

  8. Maximum RM500,000

OBJECTIVES OF SMART AUTOMATION GRANT (SAG)

SMI FUNDING is here to fully assist in meeting following application procedures:
 

Application for Market Development Grant (MDG) must be submitted online through MATRADE’s website as per following: 
  1. i. From the last date of promotional activities for: 

  2. International Trade Fairs/ Exhibitions held locally or overseas; 

  3. Trade & Investment Missions/ Export Acceleration Missions (EAM); and 

  4. International Conferences Overseas. 

  5. ii. From the first day of listing in the Hypermarkets/ Supermarkets/ Retail Centers Overseas 

  6. The system can be accessed from MATRADE’s website.

Facilitation & Purpose of the Grant

The Market Development Grant (MDG) is an export facilitation in the form of a reimbursable grant. MDG was introduced in 2002 with the objective to ease Malaysian exporters’ core expenses in promoting Malaysian made products or services globally. The maximum ceiling amount for Malaysian SMEs, Professional Service Providers, Trade and Industry Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Professional Bodies and Co-operatives is RM300,000 per life time. 

For this purpose, Virtual Event is a web platform in virtual venue to enable interaction with business people and entities through live interaction tools. The interactive features will be displayed on devices such as smart phone, tablet and laptop/desktop. Virtual events expenses claimable under MDG include such as exhibitions and business to business meetings (B2B).  Virtual Events expenses claimable under MDG are related to promotion of Malaysia products and services globally.
