Maximum funding amount available
The government offers 50% of the project cost, up to a maximum of RM500,000.00 (including project and training), as part of this technology adoption program. For their application to be taken into consideration, candidates must pledge to pay the remaining 50% of the project value.
Smart Tech-Up includes technology assessment, implementation of advanced technology projects, training, and financing, and MITI appointed SIRIM as the implementing agency.
Context:
Industry4WRD is the original national policy.
Smart Tech-Up is the newer programme that builds on that policy and gives more practical support for implementation.
Point | Industry4WRD | Smart Tech-Up |
What it is | Malaysia’s original national Industry 4.0 policy for manufacturing and manufacturing-related services, launched on 31 October 2018. | A newer programme under NIMP 2030 Mission 2 to push factory digitalisation and smart manufacturing. |
Role | Set the framework: Readiness Assessment, intervention support, and Industry 4.0 transformation path. | Acts like the next-step execution programme that upgrades the earlier Industry4WRD RA + intervention approach. MITI says it is “enhancing the previous Industry4WRD Readiness Assessment and Intervention Programme.” |
Old vs new route | The old government-funded and self-funded Industry4WRD Readiness Assessment was discontinued effective 1 January 2024. | Smart Tech-Up is the newer route under NIMP 2030, with technology assessment, implementation of advanced technology projects, training, and financing. |
Funding / support | The old Industry4WRD Intervention Fund is for SMEs that had already completed the government-funded Industry4WRD RA. It is a 70:30 matching facility, up to RM500,000, with MIDA as implementing agency. | Smart Tech-Up support includes grants and/or bank loans, with SIRIM as implementing agency. Current Smart Tech-Up material says the grant covers 50% of project and training costs, up to RM500,000. So yes, if your eligible software project cost is RM1 million, the grant can cover RM500,000, and your company would cover the remaining RM500,000. (Smart Tech Up) |
Goal | Help Malaysian manufacturers adopt Industry 4.0. | Help Malaysia meet NIMP 2030 Mission 2, including the target to transform 3,000 manufacturing facilities into smart factories by 2030. |
