Purpose of the Digital Content Grant (DCG)

The primary goal of the Digital Content Grant (DCG) is to provide funding to creative content enterprises, enabling them to bring their innovative ideas to life. By supporting projects in animation, digital games, digital comics, and creative technology, the DCG helps companies scale their operations, enhance their product offerings, and reach international markets. This grant plays a pivotal role in fostering creativity and entrepreneurship in Malaysia's digital economy.

Eligibility Criteria for DCG

To be eligible for the Digital Content Grant (DCG), companies must meet several criteria set by MDEC. The applicant must be incorporated in Malaysia and possess a valid business registration under an enterprise, sole proprietorship, partnership, or limited liability partnership. Additionally, the company must have been in operation for a minimum of one year. The authorised director, where applicable, must be actively involved in the project and provide oversight.

For the grant application, companies are required to submit project costing, which includes a detailed breakdown of the total expenses associated with the project. The ceiling amount for funding is determined based on the nature of the project and its alignment with MDEC's objectives. A minimum of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)'s standards will be considered to ensure that the projects are viable and can have a positive impact on the Malaysian digital economy.

Project Duration and Funding Terms

The period of the funded project typically spans from six months to one year, depending on the complexity of the project. The grant covers various costs, including production, marketing, and development expenses, ensuring that companies can maintain financial stability throughout the project lifecycle. In terms of project duration, the approved timeframe will be assessed and agreed upon by both MDEC and the company to ensure realistic and achievable milestones.

A funded project must meet all deadlines, milestones, and deliverables outlined in the grant agreement. Throughout this period, applicants must provide recorded information and reports detailing their project progress, including any issue as reported and key achievements. This transparency allows MDEC to track the success of funded projects and make adjustments where necessary.

Financial Accountability and Auditing

As part of the eligibility criteria, applicants must submit their latest audited accounts to demonstrate financial transparency and stability. This is crucial to ensuring that the company is capable of managing the grant funds responsibly. Furthermore, if the company has received any MDEC government funding in the past, it must disclose this information and ensure no family relationship with any of MDEC officials exists, which could present a conflict of interest.

Investors and other stakeholders involved in the project must also ensure that the company complies with the requirements and has all the necessary documentation to apply for the grant. This includes proof of the company's financial health, the scope of the project, and the market potential for the digital content being developed.

Market and Platform Considerations

The registered market for the digital content should be identified, including specific targets such as local, regional, or international consumers. The digital content must be suitable for distribution across various OTT platforms or media companies, as these channels offer vast reach and engagement opportunities for content creators
