DIAF-ESG MATCHING GRANT-ESG FUNDING GUIDE-MIDA-MALAYSIA
The DIAF-ESG Matching Grant helps eligible Malaysian businesses share the cost of adopting environmental, social and governance practices. Administered by MIDA – Malaysian Investment Development Authority, it offers reimbursable support on a 50:50 matching basis, up to RM500,000 per company. This article explains the funding structure, intended recipients and practical preparation needed before applying. (mida.gov.my)

Who is the DIAF-ESG Matching Grant for?
The grant targets Malaysian-owned SMEs and mid-tier companies in manufacturing and selected services. Its purpose is to help these businesses transition towards ESG practices rather than provide unrestricted funding for general expansion. Applications are evaluated individually, so belonging to the target business category does not guarantee approval. (mida.gov.my)
MIDA’s eligibility criteria include incorporation under the Companies Act 2016, at least 51% effective Malaysian equity ownership, a valid business licence and at least three years of operation. Manufacturers also need the relevant manufacturing licence or exemption confirmation. Selected services must fall within the programme’s specified activities and meet applicable licensing requirements. (mida.gov.my)
Before requesting proposals from consultants or software vendors, check your company’s position against the official eligibility checklist. Gather ownership records, registration details and licences in one place. If your service activity does not clearly fit an eligible category, seek clarification from MIDA before committing to an application budget.

The Domestic Investment Accelerator Fund–ESG Adoption supports ESG adoption, sustainability improvements and related business transformation. Its objectives include strengthening validation and verification, certification, disclosures, digital ESG tracking and internal capabilities through training. These activities focus on building the systems and evidence behind sustainability practices. (mida.gov.my)
Applications have been extended and remain open until 30 November 2026, subject to available funds. MIDA’s published notice confirms the extension; approval remains conditional on government funding, allocation and prevailing policies. Treat the date as an application deadline, not a reservation of financial support. (mida.gov.my)
For a business considering ESG funding, the most useful starting point is a defined operational gap. Perhaps your team needs a reliable way to collect emissions data, prepare disclosures or document an ESG process. Build the proposed project around that gap, with a clear deliverable and someone responsible for using the results.
Avoid starting with the maximum grant amount and working backwards to create expenditure. Instead, identify the smallest coherent project that delivers a useful capability. That approach keeps the business case focused even if the approved support differs from your initial request.

How does the 50:50 grant matching work?
Under the programme’s grant matching arrangement, the government contributes 50% of approved eligible expenditure and the company must contribute 50%. The maximum government grant amount is RM500,000 per company, provided on a reimbursable basis and subject to case-by-case evaluation and available funds. It is not an automatic RM500,000 payment to every applicant. (mida.gov.my)
